either because their household can't afford breakfast, they've had to rush out the door or they've simply eaten so early to due to long travel times to school. At Variety Tasmania, we're on a mission ensure EVERY Tasmanian child, in EVERY school has access to breakfast EVERY day.
The best start to the day
We all know the best possible start to the day involves a nutritious breakfast - shown to improve problem solving, memory, concentration, and anecdotally, the teachers find the kids are calm and ready to learn.
Variety School Breakfast Club enables schools to deliver a nutritious breakfast five days a week, to all students in their school - to eliminate the stigma of partaking.
We also ask schools to invite parents in for a cup of tea and a chat too, to help foster a sense of community.

Bring Breakfast Club to your school
Expressions of interest for the Variety School Breakfast Club are now open.
The Variety School Breakfast Club is proud to be partnering with the Tasmanian Government to roll out the program to all government schools over the next four years, to ensure every student has access to breakfast on every school day.
Schools are invited to apply for a grant through the Variety School Breakfast Club program to initiate or expand a breakfast club for their students, and work with Variety Tasmania to ensure its longevity.
Benefits of the Variety School Breakfast Club
The program offer several benefits to students, schools, and communities:
- improved academic performance,
- enhanced student nutrition and health,
- increased school attendance and punctuality,
- improved student behaviour and focus, improved social and emotional well-being, and
- improved parent and community engagement.
Eligibility for 2026
- Government schools in Tasmania with an ICSEA score of 950 or less.
- The school leadership commits to making breakfast available for all students on every school day.
- Parents and carers are welcome/invited to drop in for a cuppa and a chat.
- The school has the appropriate facilities and is willing to take the necessary steps to implement and create a sustainable school breakfast program. Where possible, the school will proactively seek support from local groups, organisations, and businesses to secure the required support for a sustainable and sufficient breakfast club.
- Agree to providing Variety Tasmania with a short acquittal report at the end of each term.
